Carlsbad/Joshua Tree trip

Spring Break, 2016

Day 1 : Leave at around 7 pm, drive (about 5 hours), stay in Lebec, CA at Holiday Inn Express. Decent hotel, free breakfast.Day2 : Breakfast at hotel, drive (about 4 hours) to San Juan Capistrano. Go to the Spanish Mission. It is small and not the best preserved but perfect size for kids. Have lunch in San Juan Capistrano, go to beach near Cannon Road, Shore Drive and Carlsbad Blvd. Park on the Carlsbad blvd, short walk to beach. There are some nice tidepools (http://www.familyfunincarlsbadca.com/carlsad-tide-pools/) Even if tide is low, its a nice beach to just hang out. Dinner in Carlsbad, a little quaint town. Stay at Legoland hotel or Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa or Grand Pacific Palisades Resort. We have stayed at all 3 of them and they are pretty good. Best part is that they have a walkway to Legoland, which I love because we don’t have to get into the car. Grand Pacific Palisades has a good brewery/hotel on site, we both loved the variety of beer. They are quite kid-friendly.
Day 3: Legoland, stay at the same hotel.
Day 4: Legoland or drive some distance to Joshua Tree National Park.
Day 5: Drive to Joshua Tree National Park (about 3.5 hours) or Salton Sea (3.5 hours). Driving time between Joshua Tree and Salton Sea is about 45 minutes. Spend time in one place, Stay near Palm Springs or Palm Desert.
Day 6: Joshua Tree or Salton Sea. Drive back home in the evening.
